Frobes has released the “Frobes Most Powerful Women of the year 2023” list. This definitive list celebrates the remarkable achievements of inspirational female leaders across various sectors, including CEOs, entertainers, politicians, philanthropists, and policy makers, all of whom are shaping and influencing the world in unprecedented ways.
For the second consecutive year, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, claims the top spot in the list of “Frobes Most Powerful Women of the year“. Following closely are Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, maintaining their positions at numbers two and three, respectively.
Breaking new ground this year is American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who secures the fifth spot. This marks a historic moment as the first time an entertainer has entered the top five. Swift’s meteoric rise from No. 79 in 2022 is attributed to her extraordinary accomplishments, including joining the billionaires club in October with a net worth of $1.1 billion. Her global Eras tour, a record-breaking success, significantly contributed to the U.S. economy, with the U.S. Travel Association estimating an additional $5 billion to state economies.

Moira Forbes, Executive Vice President at Forbes, notes, “In a year overshadowed by turbulent uncertainty and instability, the world’s most powerful women are leveraging their influence beyond traditional realms to drive profound transformation. As we grapple with a global convergence of crises, the need for their leadership has never been more evident or urgent.”

The diverse women featured in the 2023 ranking represent six categories: business, technology, finance, media & entertainment, politics & policy, and philanthropy. Forbes employed four metrics – money, media, impact, and spheres of influence – to determine the ranking within each category and the overall rank on the list of 100. These influential figures are builders, disruptors, and innovators across corporate and creative domains, embodying a modern, forward-looking perspective on power.
Maggie McGrath, ForbesWomen editor, remarks, “Over the past twenty years of the Most Powerful Women list, we’ve documented the shifting ways that power is attained and enacted globally. This year’s list illustrates that perhaps better than any other, with entertainment icons ranking right at the top alongside global politicians and leaders of the world’s most influential businesses.”
